Welcome, I'm Lisa...
And I love cross stitch! I have a needle artist since I was very young. My great-grandmother taught me how to embroider, knit, and crochet. My mom taught me how to sew. However, I didn’t learn counted cross stitch until I was eighteen and my Aunt Peggy and I attended needlework classes at a local department store. First we learned needlepoint, then crewel embroidery, and finally counted cross stitch. I was hooked!
I loved it so much that I bought a book of ornaments (by Gloria and Pat) and didn’t stop stitching until I had completed all of them. In the meantime, I started college and could not find a pattern for my university. Not to be discouraged, I designed one of my own featuring our mascot Leo (the lion) who lived on campus.
That was the beginning of my love for designing counted cross stitch. A local needlework shop even sold copies to local stitchers. While I continued to design patterns for myself, the LNS closed and my career went in another direction.
I worked in television for fifteen years, then moved to advertising for four years. While I was still in advertising, I saw an ad for Hoffman Media. They were looking for an Art Director for Just CrossStitch Magazine and Sampler & Antique Quarterly and they had moved the magazine production to my town. I applied and got my dream job! It was wonderful and I loved it while it lasted. But the industry changed, the magazine moved out of town and was eventually sold to another company. I still do freelance work for Just CrossStitch and of course I love that…
Fast forward a few years, and I got up the courage to ask if I could submit a design to the magazine. They said yes, and my career as a needlework designer was reborn!
I really love creating counted needle work designs, and I am so excited to share my creations with you! I have loved every minute of designing these. So please take a look around. I hope you find something that inspires you!
